Written by Matthew Thompson

John 14:1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way where I am going.”

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples on the night of His arrest. He knew the road that lie ahead.  He knew the doubt and the fear that they would soon experience.  He knew not only what He would suffer, but also what they would suffer because of Him.  He knew that all but one of them would pay with their lives.

How could He be so calm? How could He tell them to not be troubled?

The answer is in verse two.  Jesus understood that there is more at play in our lives than what we experience here on this earth.  He understood that though this world seems to be overwhelming at times, that this isn’t our ultimate destination.  In this moment, Jesus reminds His disciples that He sees with an eternal vision.  He works toward the final outcome.

If you are in a situation right now that seems to be completely and totally overwhelming, be encouraged.  This is not the endgame.  Where He is now, you will one day be also.
